Action Week: 30 Years Breaking the Silence
4th Action Week against Femicide and Sexualized Violence
August 02-14, 2021
August 3, 2021 marks the 7th anniversary of the still ongoing femicide and genocide against the Yezidis in Sinjar/Şengal in northern Iraq. This will be followed on August 14, 2021 by the now 9th Day of Remembrance for the former “comfort women” in Berlin. In this time period we call for solidarity and commitment with a diverse and colorful action week!
The motto of this year’s action week is “30 years breaking the silence”. Together we remember that on August 14, 1991, the first survivor, Kim Hak-Soon, publicly broke the silence and thus started the “comfort women” movement worldwide. This day was declared as the International Day of Remembrance for the “Comfort Women” in 2012. In our action week this year, we want to remember this epoch-making moment of breaking of the silence exactly 30 years ago and declare our solidarity on behalf of all women* from Shengal to Korea to Germany.
