ROMADAY PARADE – WE ARE HERE!

From the Memorial for the Murdered Sinti and Roma of Europe to Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz

ROMADAY on 8 April is a day of celebration: we take it to the streets and celebrate Roma and Sinti around the world, the power of the community and their resilience. We remember the beginnings of the worldwide emancipation movement with the first World Roma Congress on 8 April 1971 and continue to build on it.

At the same time, ROMADAY is a day of fight: the Nazis are spreading again in Europe, the rights of migrants are being curtailed again. On ROMADAY, we make it clear: We are at the forefront of the fight against right-wing extremists! Sinti and Roma have always been part of the resistance, fought as partisans and will not stand still and watch as our home countries are taken over by the right! We are here and we will stay here!

The ROMADAY parade, which has taken place every year since 2018, begins at the Memorial to the Murdered Sinti* and Roma* of Europe, which is also threatened by the construction of an S-Bahn line. We commemorate our dead and send a signal of respect, which the Deutsche Bahn and the Berlin Senate clearly lack. From there, our loud, colourful and courageous procession will set off through the centre of Berlin and make its way via Alexanderplatz to the Grüner Salon of the Volksbühne on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, our artistic home, where we will come together and refresh ourselves by a Meet & Greet with soup and drinks, before the day reaches its highlight with a fantastic concert (see last post) by Mahala Raï Banda and Mal Élevé & friends.
